Most people assume their eyes stay completely closed while they sleep.

But for some individuals, that’s not always the case.

A condition known as nocturnal lagophthalmos causes people to sleep with their eyes partially open—often without realizing it. In many cases, family members are the first to notice it.

While it may seem harmless, sleeping with your eyes slightly open can lead to several uncomfortable symptoms.
